Director of Finance and Operations

Chicago Tech Academy is an innovative, non-profit contract high school that leverages STEM curriculum and real-world learning opportunities to change the lives of underserved youth. Our mission is to educate, empower and connect a diverse generation of entrepreneurial thinkers to discover their passions, succeed in college and careers, and thrive in a digital world. We partner with many of Chicago’ s leading technology companies to bring internship, mentoring and project-based learning opportunities into our school.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, creative, team-oriented Director of Finance and Operations to join our senior leadership team and help us take this unique contract school to the next level. The Director of Finance and Operations will work closely with the CEO and Principal to provide smooth and efficient business management leadership for the school. The Director of Finance and Operations is a key member of the school leadership team, and is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting, financial management, human resources, benefits management and administration, purchasing, inventory, facilities management and business processes and procedures for the entire school. This position will supervise the business office and maintenance staff, and numerous third party vendors. The Director of Finance and Operations will serve as a key liaison between the school and Chicago Public Schools central office for financial and compliance matters.

Responsibilities:
  • Accounting?? and?? Finance
    • Annual budget preparation
    • Accounts payable and accounts receivable reconciliation
    • Expenditure coding and tracking, purchasing and vendor relationship management
    • Monthly financial reporting and analysis
    • Cash forecasting and management
    • Student account management
  • Human?? Resources
    • Payroll
    • Benefits administration
    • Timekeeping
    • Personnel file management
  • School?? Compliance
    • All non-instructional compliance
    • Collection and processing of Free and Reduced Meal Applications
    • Preparation of the school for the annual finance and compliance audit
  • Facility?? Management
    • Oversee vendor relationships for engineering, maintenance and food services
    • Liaison to CPS for safety and security and telecommunications systems

  • Fiercely organized and execution-oriented (experience managing many moving parts and consistently delivering on time)
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with the leadership team
  • Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
  • Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Personal qualities of maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a roll-up-my-sleeves attitude

Education?? and?? Experience?:
  • Three or more years of business management and accounting experience preferably in a charter school or non-profit organization
  • Bachelor’ s degree in business, finance or accounting, Masters preferred.
  • Extensive experience with QuickBooks and Excel
